Sessions on Improving Oversight for the Public Accounts Committee, Parliamentary Staff, and the Audit Office
Guyana – March 26 and March 28, 2011

These sessions were held in response to an assessment exercise conducted with the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Guyana in December 2010. In this assessment, CCAF and the PAC used the Capacity Assessment Model developed by CCAF for oversight committees. It was agreed that as a next step, the PAC could benefit from capacity building support to help it effectively review performance audit reports.

The first session was a one-day workshop with the PAC, senior members of the Audit Office and the Finance Secretary and Accountant General (advisors to the PAC). John Noseworthy, the Auditor General of Newfoundland and Labrador, co-facilitated this workshop, and the participants found it very interesting and helpful to hear about his experiences. The second session was a one-day workshop for staff of the Parliament of Guyana to learn about performance auditing and how they can best support the PAC's review of performance audits. Several members of the Audit Office also participated in this workshop.
