The CCAF is pleased to recognize the appointment of Mr. Arn van Iersel as the Acting Auditor General of British Columbia as of June 2006.
Mr. van Iersel is a Certified General Accountant and a graduate of the University of Calgary where he earned his honours degree in economics and his graduate degree. For over 30 years, Mr. van Iersel has been with both the Alberta and British Columbia government holding various senior positions. In British Columbia, he has worked in Treasury Board, Financial Services and Administration, Provincial Treasury, Ministry of Human Resources, the Office of the Comptroller General, and as Associate Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Children and Family Development. Mr. van Iersel has been a Senior Financial Officer for the Ministry of Finance, an Executive Financial Officer for the Ministry of Human Resources and Comptroller General for the Province of BC. Mr. van Iersel is also currently a member of the Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB), of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.
In January 2003, Mr. van Iersel was presented with the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal for exemplary leadership and public service. He has also been recognized for his contributions to other organizations including the Financial Management Institute.
Mr. van Iersel has contiually offered his guidance and support towards the CCAF and our research, including his contribution to our 25th Anniversay Journal, “The Evolving Financial and Control Framework in the BC Government”.
Mr. van Iersel will be replacing Wayne Strelioff who retired at the beginning of May. We wish Mr. van Iersel success in his new position, and we look forward to working with him in the near future.

C'est avec plaisir que nous vous informons de la nomination de M. Arn van Iersel au poste de vérificateur général par intérim de la Colombie-Britannique à compter de juin 2006.
Comptable général licencié, M. van Iersel est un diplômé de l'Université de Calgary, où il a obtenu un baccalauréat spécialisé en économie ainsi qu'un diplôme d'études supérieures. Fonctionnaire en Alberta et en Colombie-Britannique depuis plus de 30 ans, M. van Iersel a occupé divers postes supérieurs. En Colombie-Britannique, il a travaillé pour le Conseil du Trésor, les Services financiers et Administration, le Trésor provincial, le ministère des Ressources humaines, le Bureau du contrôleur général, ainsi que comme sous-ministre délégué au Développement de l'enfant et de la famille. Il a assuré les fonctions d'agent financier supérieur au ministère des Finances, d'agent financier exécutif au ministère des Ressources humaines et de contrôleur général de la Colombie-Britannique. De plus, il siège actuellement au Conseil sur la comptabilité dans le secteur public (CCSP), de l'Institut Canadien des Comptables Agréés.
En janvier 2003, M. van Iersel a reçu la Médaille du jubilé d'or de la reine pour son leadership exemplaire et sa contribution à la fonction publique. Il a aussi reçu d'autres prix pour souligner sa contribution à d'autres organismes, dont l'Institut de la gestion financière du Canada.
M. van Iersel a toujours appuyé la CCAF-FCVI et les travaux de recherche de celle-ci. Il a entre autres publié un article dans la Revue du 25e anniversaire de la CCAF-FCVI, intitulé « Le cadre de contrôle financier évolutif au sein du gouvernement de la Colombie-Britannique ».
M. van Iersel remplacera M. Wayne Strelioff qui a pris sa retraite au début de mai. Nous lui souhaitons beaucoup de succès dans ses nouvelles fonctions, et nous nous ferons un plaisir de travailler avec lui sous peu.
