HIGHLIGHTS OF THE FEDERAL ACCOUNTABILITY ACT
 The Federal Accountability Act, tabled by the Government of Canada in April 2006, is intended to strengthen accountability and increase transparency and oversight in government. It was passed by the House of Commons in June 2006 after a House legislative committee heard from 70 witnesses and considered over 200 amendments. The bill is currently before the Senate.
The following is an overview of the Act adapted from a presentation by the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat. Due to the importance of this Act, CCAF felt that members could benefit from this summary.

POINTS SAILLANTS DE LA LOI FÉDÉRALE SUR L'IMPUTABILITÉ
 La Loi fédérale sur l'imputabilité, déposée par le gouvernement du Canada en avril 2006, vise à renforcer le processus redditionnel et à accroître la transparence et le contrôle du gouvernement. Elle a été adoptée par la Chambre des communes en juin 2006, après qu'un comité législatif de la Chambre ait vu comparaître 70 témoins et examiné plus de 200 amendements. Le projet de loi est actuellement devant le Sénat.
Le présent document fournit un aperçu de la Loi. Il s'agit d'une adaptation d'un extrait d'un exposé présenté par le Secrétariat du Conseil du Trésor. En raison de l'importance de cette loi, la CCAF-FCVI a jugé que ses membres pourraient tirer avantage de ce résumé.
